Thai Kitchen

We have been to the Thai Kitchen in Chester several times now and have never been disappointed. In the small world department I happen to go to another Thai restaurant earlier in the week. This one, perhaps better known with outstanding reviews, is in Morristown. The Thai Kitchen is better by an order of magnitude. Their menu is extensive (probably over 70 items to choose from) and the food exceptional in this BYOB spot. Last Saturday night, without reservations, we had to wait 30 minutes for a table. This was easy to handle since the restaurant is in the mall in Chester with some good stores to check out while waiting for a table.

Every other time I have been to the Thai Restaurant I made the mistake of ordering one of their delicious soups before having an entree. I have always felt stuffed at the end of the meal. This time I was smarter and started with an entree, their Gang Dang with beef, red curry, coconut milk, Thai basil, bamboo shoots, onions and bell peppers. It was more than enough to eat and really, really good. One of my dinner partners did have an appetizer....outstanding Thai Spring Rolls which we all sampled. For entrees one of my guests had Pad Prik Khing which was chicken and shrimps sauteed with green beans, onions and hot long peppers with a special chef curry sauce. The other guest had Mango chicken, lightly breaded and stir fried in a mango sauce. Both raved about their selections.

Normally we skip desserts but Saturday night was an exception. I had a unique coconut custard and my two friends had fried ice cream and a chocolate mousse cake. We all shared and agreed the choices were exceptional, particularly the coconut custard.

Our tab for three came to about $80 without tip and without drinks. We stuck to water since the meals all were quasi spicy. Many of the entrees come with a choice of chicken, shrimp, beef, pork or squid. Many of the dishes are marked with a small red elephant indicating a lower level of spiciness and making it clear that for the brave of heart, dishes can be prepared with up to five little red elephants of spices. It's hard to imagine how hot that could be.

The only down side to The Thai Kitchen is that it gets really noisy when it gets crowded which is most of the time on the weekends. Even with the high decibel level we recommend this one without hesitation. Besides having terrific food the service is impeccable. For reservations call 908-879-9800 or 9200.There are three other Thai Kitchens in the  area, two in Bridgewater and one in Hillsboro.
