Dino & Harry's

This is probably the best restaurant we have tried in Hoboken….and we have been to quite a few.

Our son Jonathan lives in Hoboken so we are in there often. It’s one of our favorite destinations and a great spot to spend the day, particularly when the weather is nice and you can walk along the Hudson River or wander up and down Washington Street checking out all the interesting shops and restaurants.

Dino & Harry’s is a New York steak restaurant housed in an old longshoreman’s saloon that has retained many of the original architectural features along with having tin ceiling and tile floor. The huge antique cherry wood bar is inviting as you walk in. But we skipped drinks at the bar and headed right to our table in the comfortable dining area. We showed up about 6 on a Saturday without a reservation. By 7 nearly every table was taken so a reservation on the weekend is probably a good idea.

Everything on the menu is ala carte including the side vegetable and potato dishes at $9 each. Three of us split a side of spinach which was more than enough for us. Their salads are varied – Hoboken, Caesar, Hearts of Lettuce and Slices Tomato and Onions – and all looked good. One in our group had the Caesar and thought it exceptional.

The steaks and chops ranged from just over $30 to just over $40. Two in our group had different sizes of the Filet. Both thought they were every bit as good, if not better, as any they have had in an upscale NY steak place. I went light with Blackened Salmon over a bed of Broccoli Rabe. It was exceptional.

For desserts two of us split a parfait of pound cake and zabaglione. Jonathan had a chocolate cake creation that he said was special.

The tab for three came to just about $140 with only one of us having a class of wine.

The service was impeccable. Many of the staff members have been there many years. Joe, the piano player and others have been working here for over 18 years. Executive Chef Gerardo Leal has been here 7 years after several stops at high-end NY restaurants. The team obviously knows how to work together. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. Despite the many people enjoying their dinners it was easy to hear ourselves talk comfortably.

Dino & Harry’s is a restaurant we recommend highly and will be going to again for those special business or personal occasions. Parking in Hoboken is always a challenge. Dino & Harry's offers 3 hour validated parking in a near-by garage which eliminates this hassle.
