The Back Yard Restaurant - Hilton Head

Backyard_RestaurantThe Back Yard Restaurant is the place to eat the next time you are in Hilton Head, SC

We were in Hilton Head recently for four days of great golf at Colleton River Plantation where we own property and are members. We had not been down there for a while and were looking for new restaurants to try. Our son who was with us searched on www.tripadvisor.com and came up with a couple of possibilities. We picked the top rated Low Country Hilton Head island Back Yard Restaurant which turned out to be exactly our type of place.....comfortable, quality food, fair prices, terrific service, interesting choices.

We recommend it highly.

David Peck and his wife Raina opened the restaurant earlier in 2010 in a tucked-away small spot down near the tip of Hilton Head. At night it was not so easy to find. Inside there are 7 or 8 tables and more outside in an open patio area. On a nice evening this would be a really terrific spot to eat outside. David is the Chef and Raina does a great job running the front of Back Yard.

To start the three of us had their Fried Green Tomato Stack drizzled with ranch dressing and served with home made pickles – the best. It was plenty for all of us. For entrees I had the Island Crab Cakes – all meat and exceptional. Judy had one of the dishes they are known for, their Potato Chip Meatloaf brushed with peach barbeque sauce. It was awesome and almost too much to eat. Jonathan raved about their "Bischick" – marinated, lightly breaded, pan fried chicken breast served on their home made biscuits with low country gravy. All the main dishes come with one or two side dishes with the choices including Corn Bread, Mom's Macaroni Salad, Baked 4 Cheese Man N Cheese, Grits of course and Creamed Cheese Whipped Potatoes (Yum!).

For dessert – one was more than enough for the three of us – we shared their home made bread pudding.

They have daily specials all of which sounded great.

The final highlight of the evening was having a cup of tea made with the only tea grown in America in Charleston, SC.

The Low Country, Hilton Head Island Back Yard Restaurant is a BYOB spot. So, including many refills of ice tea and lemonade plus tip, the tab came to just over $75 which was a great deal for the three of us.
