Giorgione

giorgione11I went to Giorgione's recently for lunch with one of the leaders of Edelman, the world's largest public relations firm. This is one of Mark's favorites in the neighborhood, downtown near Canal Street and located 2 blocks from the Spring Street subway stop.

Often when you first walk into a new restaurant you can tell immediately that it may be a special place. That's how Giorgione struck me. It has a crisp, sophisticated interior with a really helpful staff.

Mark had the Fritta, an open faced Omelet with Asparagus, Parsley and Parmigiano ($18).  He said it was terrific. I had an appetizer to start, Carciofi alla Giudia -  Roman Jewish Style Crispy Artichokes ($13) and then the Red & Golden Beets Salad with Sardinian Sheep's Milk Ricotta with a Raspberry Vinegar & E.V.O.O. dressing ($13). Both were exceptional.

The entire menu was appealing. Mark says their wood oven pizzas are great. There were plenty of choices including a full range of pasta dishes.

The wine list looked substantial but since it was mid day we passed and went straight for the iced tea!

This is certainly a place I would recommend for when you are in the city. Being only a couple of blocks from the Holland Tunnel and with plenty of parking in the area at the end of the day, this will be a place for your special occasion.
