Mosaico LogoWe had an especially good lunch here. It was our first time at Mosaico and it won’t be our last. The ambiance is first rate with Mosaic tiles (hence the name) used to decorate the open kitchen walls. We were told that the polished and re-cut tiles were shipped over from demolished Italian villas,

an attention to detail that is apparent as soon as you walk into Mosaico. Because Route 22 was a mess with construction nearby the day I tried Mosaic the lunch crowd was small. But the friend who took me there says they are normally quite crowded at lunch and get really busy in the evening both at the inviting bar and in the main dining room.

We each ordered fish as our entrée. Buddy had the grilled Salmon which he said was terrific. I had the Chilean Sea Bass over a bed of spinach with white beans. It was as good as I have had.

When we first were seated we were offered a bread basket that included fresh foccaccia and exceptional crostini. I could have handled the entire basket myself. That’s how good the breads were.

Their menu is extensive. We didn’t meet the owners but we were told one is from Croatia, the other from Guatemala. Their diverse backgrounds show up in the wide ranging eclectic menu and specials. We scanned the extensive wine list and the terrific sounding dessert menu with lots of great sounding choices but showed some restraint.

Because time was tight we didn’t have a large sample of the menu at Mosaic but the choices we made were enough to recommend this restaurant without reservation. I am half temped to head back down there tonight for dinner! That’s how good our experience was. For two with gratuity our lunch tab came to just under $50.

If you are driving along Route 22 in the Springfield-Mountainside area try Mosaico for either lunch or dinner.
