Patsel's Is Worth The Ride.
For a couple of years our good friend Lynn Evans, head of her very successful fee-only financial planning firm based outside of Scranton, Pa. (Northeastern Financial Consultants), has been telling us about her favorite restaurant in the area.....Patsel's. Recently we agreed to meet with Lynn - we had a bunch of business related things to discuss - and used the opportunity to try Patsel's. It is now one of our favorite restaurants.....any place, not just in Pennsylvania. We are planning to drive back out there one of these upcoming weekends for an early dinner or maybe for their Sunday brunch which Lynn raves about.. The drive for us from Morris County is just over 2 hours. It's worth the extra effort.

The day we were there for lunch was a gorgeous, not too hot summer day. So, we sat outside on their terrific patio overlooking their elegant English gardens which we toured after the meal. The first thing we ordered was their sweetened ice tea which they change every day with the addition of various fruit juices and spices. It was awesome. Our server brought us a basket of home made breads that were just great. For the main entrees the three of us had: Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad with Melon, Field Greens, Crumbled Blue Cheese and Citrus Vinaigrette, Pesto Grilled Flat Bread with Fresh Tomatoes and Whole Milk Mozzarella and Open Faced Jumbo Lump Crabmeat Club Sandwich with Bacon, Lettuce, Tomatoe and Truffle Mayonnaise. For desserts we ordered Winnie's Blueberry Pudding (probably used a whole box of Berries), Chocolate Macaroon Ice Cream Sandwich and my awesome choice....Citrus Panna Cotta with Grand Mariner Macerated Summer Berries.
The tab for three for lunch, excluding gratuity, was about $70. The service was impeccable and was provided by three young women, all college students and working during the summer. They were bright, upbeat, motivated and loved working at Patsel's
It would be easy to make a terrific overnight trip to the Scranton area by staying at the Radisson Hotel in the old Scranton Railroad Station after having dinner at Patsel's This is a nice part of the Pennsylvania Mountains and easy to get to from almost any place in New Jersey. If you don't try Patsel's you are short changing yourself. This exceptional spot rivals anything you will find in the NY-NJ region.
