It is hard to image that you could go wrong with anything you order here. They have an extensive ala carte menu or two, three course Prix Fixe options, the Seafood and Market Menus that include an appetizer, main course and dessert. Both are $80 per person w/o wine or $120 with wine excluding gratuity and taxes.
Four of us enjoyed our Saturday night out. I had the Lobster Bisque (it was terrific), the Roasted Rack of Lamb with caramelized cauliflower, autumn ratatouille and potato gnocchi (it was good) and a lemon tart with Italian meringue, poppy seed pound cake and berry sorbet (it was out of sight). Judy started with Crab Cakes (she always orders these), Filet mignon au poivre, potato pancake and roasted vegetables with a horseradish steak sauce. She finished off the evening with a really great looking Apple Cobbler. She left nothing on her plates and raved about her selections.
Our guests also totally enjoyed their experience and their dining choices.
We all went for the 3 course Prix Fixe option. I think they also have a 5 course Prix Fixe option. It was not totally clear, at least on the night we were there, if it was possible to simply order ala carte. I suspect that is possible. None of us are major league drinkers. Two had a class of wine each and the other two each had cokes. The tab for the evening with everything included came to just about $400. So, it's not where you will go frequently unless you are doing better in the market than the rest of us! One down side to Restaurant Serenade, particularly sitting upstairs in their smaller room, is that when it gets busy and the wine flows it can be really noisy. The two couples sitting at the table next to us were getting obnoxiously loaded. We wre glad when they left ahead of us to hit the bar downstairs. But for the special occasion this is a winner.Restaurant Serenade is owned by Chef James Laird and his wife Nancy Sheridan Laird, both graduates of the Culinary Institute. Chef James has worked under some of the top chefs in Europe. He was sous-chef at the Ryland Inn where he met Nancy, who comes to the restaurant business with a solid business background with a MS degree in Library Science from Columbia University and eventually with a highly successful Wall Street career with Morgan Stanley and Kidder Peabody.
James and Nancy have obviously poured their passion for developing a superb dining destination into their Restaurant Serenade. Good for them.
