Creative Ways to Spend the Summer
Beaming heat in the afternoons and tranquil breezes in the evening. The sun remains, lingering in the sky past 5pm. Summer is finally here, providing us a few months of rest and relaxation after a long school year. Now that we have some extra time on our hands, there are endless ways we can spend it productively while having some fun. Relaxing, spending time with friends and family, and catching up with our favorite shows are wonderful ways of devoting the summer months. But how else can we level up our summer break? Here are some creative ways to spend the summer.
Volunteering/Community Service
Volunteering can be fulfilling and even beneficial, not just for the community, but for the volunteer as well. By volunteering, you are making a positive difference in the lives of others. You will have the opportunity to meet new people, allowing you to network and make connections. Additionally, you will gain new skills and experiences that can be added to your resume, making you a promising candidate for employers. Volunteer opportunities include helping your local neighborhood, city, library, hospital, food banks, and much, much more.
Pick up a hobby/Learn a new skill
The summer is a great time to focus on a new hobby and skill. Maybe there's an activity you've always wanted to try, or maybe you want to improve on a skill you already have. Either way, learning and improving a hobby and skill will make you a more well-rounded individual by honing your creativity, problem solving, and confidence, all of which can be transferable to other parts of your life.
Take a class/Earn credits
Taking a class may sound counterintuitive for spending your summer break. However, following up on the previous activity, the summer can be a perfect time to learn a new skill and try something new. Ever wanted to learn how to paint? Play an instrument? Build a website? Bake? Utilize the classes that businesses and organizations may be offering in your area. You can even find thousands of classes on different subjects online. Another great reason to take a class is to get ahead in your education. High school and college students can take college summer courses for credits.
Start your business/Save up
Light a flame to the entrepreneur in you by taking steps to start your own business. Begin thinking about and planning ways on how you can sell your services. The summer is also a good time to save up some money by taking on a side-job. It can be a job specifically for this reason, or, it can be a way to find work that fits you best. Explore different jobs or take on an internship and see what resonates with you most. By finding a new side-hustle, you can begin to find your niche, something that can lead to a promising career.
No matter how you spend your summer, there are many creative ways to be productive and improve yourself and your life along the way.
