Bonnie Lautenberg Raises Awareness for Fighting Gun Violence with her Artwork “Guns Kill”
Gifford, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Americans from gun violence has partnered with artist, photographer, and writer, Bonnie Lautenberg for its 10th anniversary.
Lautenberg is recognized for effectively capturing the current climate in her art. Her works have been featured in gallery shows, museums, and art fairs throughout the country. She has had a solo exhibition at the Boca Ration Museum and at the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU. In 2022, she was appointed by the White House to the President's Advisory Committee on the Arts. She retains the ties she has built in Washington D.C. while she was the wife of the late Senator Frank Lautenberg. Lautenberg's work reflects the intergenerational power and talent of women, the challenges of our current era, and the joy that can be found in everyday living.
Lautenberg's new artwork, "Guns Kill," honors Giffords 10th anniversary and raises awareness of the need to fight gun violence at a timely state in our country, where new legislation in several states allow people without any permits or training to carry concealed firearms. Lautenberg says, "I created this artwork especially for Gabby Giffords. I added tears streaming down the Statue of Liberty's face, the two simple words 'Guns Kill' on her crown, and locations of mass shootings across Lady Liberty's arm. It saddens me deeply that the list of mass shootings keeps growing with so many places where Americans continue to lose loved ones to gun violence." Giffords, who has been fighting to help stop gun violence and fighting to improve her physical self after being shot while giving a speech in Tucson years ago when she was a Congresswoman, is an inspiration to Lautenberg.
"Americans are demanding a safer future, and if we come together, we can create a future free from gun violence," says Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, Founder of the gun violence preventing organization Giffords.org. "This vital message is reaching more people across the country, thanks to the artist Bonnie Lautenberg's powerful artwork 'Guns Kill.'"
