NNJCF’s ArtsBergen Reveals “The Black Women’s Mural: Celebrating Black Suffragists and Black Women”
The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization based in Hackensack, New Jersey that works to improve community life through civic engagement, education, the arts, and more.
In a public celebration on November 14th, 2022, NNJCF's ArtsBergen revealed "The Black Women's Mural: Celebrating Black Suffragists and Black Women." Driven by Englewood Black women and black suffragists, the mural celebrates Black women's voices and raises awareness of Black Suffragists.
The NNJCF's ArtsBegen collaborated with the Women's Rights Information Center, Metro Community Center, and the Woman's Club of Englewood for this project. The mural is located on the exterior wall of the Women's Rights Information Center, 108 W. Palisade Avenue in downtown Englewood, NJ. Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, a Black-Iranian artist from Oklahoma city painted the mural starting on October 28th through November 11th, 2022. She uses her visual art to address the oppressive experiences of marginalized people.
