Congratulations to Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex), the new Democratic Assembly Speaker. She is the first African-American woman to serve as Assembly Speaker and to lead a legislative house in New Jersey. Oliver is also just the second African-American woman in American history to lead a state legislative house.
